About Jennifer MacKinnon

Hello! My name is Jennifer MacKinnon, and I’m a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC). With over 14 years of experience as a Child and Youth Counsellor, I have worked in many different roles from one-to-one counselling, couples counselling, group care, crisis intervention and family wellness. I love supporting people through transitions to parenthood. I currently offer individual (13 years and up) and relationship/separation counselling. My passion is this lifelong career in empowering people to process pain, find strength and foster hope.

I consider myself a person centered and strength-based therapist and that means that I believe you are the expert in your life and my role is hear you, ask questions, offer insight and help organize your thoughts so that you can make space to learn, process and grow.

I start the therapeutic process by building a relationship in the present. If you want, we can also walk with you back to your childhood, traumatic experiences, family dynamics, grief/loss and negative core beliefs to see where patterns of behaviour or coping started for you. We can find helpful solutions in the present to help empower future wellness goals

We suffered many losses from our lives in the last few years. As a result, our relationships, our priorities and natural coping have changed. I help clients by accessing emotions, using logical reasoning, and identifying strengths. The therapeutic connection is critical to a successful counselling experience. I would be honoured to hear your story.

She practices this in her life as she thinks you can’t ask people to do what you are not willing to do yourself. She utilizes Solution Focused Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
